Abstract

The existence of a library is crucial in optimizing students' literacy culture at every level of education. Information in the form of books or others should be fulfilled and can be utilized by students. However, poor library services make students reluctant to visit the library. This reason is the background of this study with the intention of analyzing the Improvement of educational literacy culture through the availability of libraries at MTS Negeri 4 Kebumen. This study is a qualitative study that produces a description of real phenomena in the field. This study was located at MTs Negeri 4 Kebumen. Data came from the head of the madrasah, library manager, and students. Data were obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed by reviewing all data, data reduction, data interpretation, and drawing conclusions. The findings of the study obtained a picture that the improvement of literacy culture has been optimized by the presence of a library at MTs Negeri 4 Kebumen. The improvement is based on previously made planning, provision of a varied and regularly updated book collection, provision of a comfortable room and free internet access, availability of competition events that support literacy activities, availability of books by madrasa residents as a collection in the library, availability of digital services, and also the habit of reading activities by all teachers/employees and students for 15 minutes in the field or school meeting building. From these findings, it is concluded that the availability of libraries has optimized students' literacy culture from all aspects, both management, provision of innovative programs, reading habits, and friendly library services.
