The Relevance Of Coblok Dance From Nganjuk As Character Education: A Study Of Extracurricular Dance Art In Junior High School

Abstract

This study focused on examining the values of character education embedded in the Coblok dance and its relevance as teaching material for extracurricular dance activities. The objective was to describe how the relevance of Coblok dance served as teaching material to instill positive character traits based on local wisdom for students participating in extracurricular dance activities in junior high school. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative, employing a single case study of the extracurricular dance program at State Junior High School 1 Nganjuk. Data were collected through observation, documentation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) conducted with 12 female students who were members of the extracurricular program during the implementation of the Coblok dance learning session. The data were then analyzed through several stages: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and data verification. The research results showed that the Coblok dance had relevance as teaching material in extracurricular dance activities because it contained character education values through the elements of symbolic movements, costumes, makeup, and dance properties. These values included patriotism, perseverance, creativity and innovation, respect for natural resources, collectivism, social care, and appreciation for traditions and cultural heritage. In conclusion, the Coblok dance not only functioned as an artistic expression but also served as an educational medium, contributing to the character development of the younger generation. Thus, the Coblok dance had relevance as teaching material in extracurricular dance activities because it was rich in character education values that could shape students' positive personalities.
