The Role of Beatboxing in Supporting Storytelling Experiences in Early Childhood Receptive Language

This research shows that the integration of beatboxing into storytelling activities plays a significant role in supporting the receptive language development of early childhood. Beatboxing serves not only as an entertainment element but also as an effective pedagogical strategy, providing rhythmic and auditory stimulation that captures children's attention, prolongs focus, and increases both verbal and nonverbal engagement. Through this approach, the storytelling process, which was initially one-way, becomes interactive and participatory, enabling children to actively understand the story's meaning. Furthermore, the use of beatboxing also strengthens children's memory, imagination, and courage in expressing themselves through sound. Theoretically, this practice aligns with Lev Vygotsky's concept of scaffolding and the theory of selective attention, where engaging and varied stimuli can enhance children's information processing. Therefore, beatbox-based storytelling can be viewed as a multisensory, interactive, and relevant learning innovation to optimize receptive language development in early childhood, especially amidst the challenges of increasing exposure to digital media.
