Exploring Parent’s Multimodal text Involvement to Bilingual Child’s Reading: An Indonesian Case Study
Keywords:
bilingual; multimodal text; Islamic international school; parents’ involvementAbstract
Bilingual literacy development in children often relies heavily on parental involvement, especially in multicultural and multilingual contexts. This study explores how parents utilize multimodal strategies to support bilingual reading development in an Indonesian Islamic educational setting. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research focuses on two parents from an Islamic International School, purposively selected for their active participation in their children’s reading activities. Data collection methods include semi-structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires. These methods capture parents’ beliefs, strategies, and challenges in fostering bilingual literacy using various modes such as books, digital tools, and other resources. Thematic analysis is applied to identify patterns and themes, with triangulation enhancing the validity of findings. Ethical considerations, including informed consent, confidentiality, and voluntary participation, ensure the study's rigor and integrity. This research contributes to understanding multimodal approaches in bilingual literacy development and highlights parental practices that integrate linguistic and cultural dimensions within an Islamic educational framework.
