This study examines the significant role of the Jawi script in the modernization of Islamic education in 20th-century Minangkabau. Adapted from Arabic, Jawi script facilitated literacy and the dissemination of Islamic knowledge. It became a vital medium for religious texts, educational literature, and cultural documentation. A notable platform utilizing Jawi script was Al-Munir magazine, which emerged as a milestone in reforming Islamic education. Published in Padang, this magazine bridged traditional Islamic teachings with modern ideas, fostering critical discourse and intellectual progress in Minangkabau society.
