Code Switching In Indonesian Speech Of Riau Malay Ethnic At A Meeting Of Tambusai Subdistrict Government Agency

Abstract

The bilingualism of the Dalu-dalu community, Tambusai District, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province results in language errors. The most common language error is code switching. Code switching occurs when the speaker suddenly makes a language switch when communicating with the interlocutor. The code switching that is usually carried out by the Dalu-dalu community is the transition from Indonesian to Riau Malay. The use of code switching is common in informal situations. People feel more comfortable when speaking in Riau Malay than Indonesian. Code switching and other language errors should be avoided in formal situations. Formal situations such as government meetings are usually attended by various ethnic groups. The use of good and correct Indonesian is highly recommended so that all meeting participants can understand the information conveyed. This study aims to describe code switching in Indonesian Malay Malay utterances in a meeting of government agencies in Tambusai District. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique in this study is the recording and note-taking technique. The data found in this study were 43 data. This research was conducted in Dalu-dalu, Tambusai District, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. With this research, it is hoped that it can reduce language errors, especially code-switching for the people of Tambusai District, especially in Dalu-dalu.
